Armenia Joins the Prestigious Prix Goncourt, One of France’s Leading Literary Awards

After nearly two years of collaboration, Armenia has joined the Prix Goncourt, France’s foremost literary award. This major literary milestone has been made possible through the joint efforts of the French Institute of Armenia, the French University in Armenia (UFAR), and the Newmag Publishing House. The award ceremony has been held annually since 1903, with the winner selected by a vote of the members of the Académie Goncourt.
More than 40 countries participate in this initiative, each with its own national jury that selects a winning title from the shortlist proposed by the Académie Goncourt. Armenia will now also designate its own laureate through a national jury. The winners selected by the various national juries may or may not coincide with the official winner chosen by the Académie Goncourt. The book selected by Armenia’s national jury will be published by Newmag Publishing House.
The official event celebrating Armenia’s participation in France’s leading literary prize will take place on 12 October as part of the FrancoFest 2024 Arts and Book Festival.
