The EU Grants €18 Million to Armenia for a Government-Approved Program

The government has approved the decree signed by the President of Armenia concerning the ratification of the financing agreement entitled “State and Resilience Building Agreement for the Republic of Armenia” between the Republic of Armenia and the European Commission.

The agreement, valued at €15 million, was signed during the first quarter of 2024.

Armenian Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan stated that the project aims to strengthen Armenia’s social and economic resilience, particularly by addressing the immediate, medium-term, and long-term challenges faced by people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.

“As part of the project, we plan to provide a one-time, multi-purpose financial assistance package to address temporary housing needs and utility expenses, support women and vulnerable groups, and facilitate the social and economic rehabilitation of host communities,” Grigoryan said.

He also noted that another project had been approved on June 20, under which the EU will allocate an additional €3 million to Armenia. This funding is intended to support the Armenian government's broad reform agenda and promote the social and economic integration of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh. It focuses in particular on implementing strategies related to healthcare, social protection, and employment.
