Solemn tribute to the memory of Armand Melkonian

On September 26th, the CCIFA and its president, Mr. Armen Mnatzakanian, paid tribute to Mr. Armand Melkonian, a major figure in French and international sommellerie, who passed away in Nice on April 2, 2026. Organized by Trinity Canyon Vineyards, a solemn ceremony was held at the Vineyard of the Masters in Armenia, where a commemorative stone was erected in his memory to celebrate the pioneers of Armenian viticulture and winemaking.

Born to parents of Armenian origin, Armand Melkonian enjoyed a brilliant career, winning the title of Best Sommelier of France in 1967 and, in 1968, the very first International Sommellerie Competition, making a lasting mark on his profession. Alongside this exceptional journey, Armand Melkonian always maintained a close connection to his Armenian roots.

The CCIFA is honored to pay tribute to the memory of this great man who left an indelible mark on his field.
