Armenia’s New Export Strategy: A Stronger Focus on Improving Product Quality
News
As part of the development of Armenia’s new export strategy, particular emphasis has been placed on improving product quality. This was stated by Narek Hovakimyan, Deputy Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia, during the fourth session of the EU–Armenia Parliamentary Partnership Committee, held at the Armenian Parliament. On that occasion, he presented Armenia’s export strategy, which has already been developed and is currently in the approval phase.
According to Mr. Hovakimyan, the European Union’s partners played a key role in this process. The strategy was developed on the basis of market research and an analysis of the sectors in which Armenian products are already present. However, the Deputy Minister stressed that the primary focus has been on quality.
“We understand that when it comes to exports, the strategy must first and foremost aim to improve product quality and align products with the standards of multiple countries. Otherwise, our exports are likely to remain vulnerable,” he explained.
Mr. Hovakimyan further noted that the strategy should not focus solely on the volume of exported products, but rather on their quality. In this context, Armenia, in cooperation with the European Union, is working to strengthen and enhance the country's quality infrastructure.
“We plan to develop laboratory capacities, which will enable us to provide the accredited laboratories of the Republic of Armenia with conformity assessment documents that are also recognized by the European Union. This is our primary objective,” the Deputy Minister of Economy concluded.
